A SPORTING TRIUMPH – SOUTHERN AFRICA WUKF OPEN 2026

Saturday, 26 September 2026 | Sports Facilitation Centre, Windhoek

What a remarkable celebration of karate, friendship and sporting excellence!

The 3rd Southern Africa WUKF Open Championship weekend began on Friday with the inaugural meeting of the Southern Africa WUKF Referee Commission—an important milestone aimed at developing, qualifying and standardising the level of referees and officials throughout Southern Africa.

This was followed by a comprehensive WUKF Referee Course and Examination, providing officials with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, demonstrate their competence and work towards formal qualification.

Friday concluded with a Dignitaries Dinner, where friendships were forged, existing relationships strengthened and a shared vision for the future of WUKF karate in Southern Africa celebrated.

On Saturday, 26 September 2026, the Sports Facilitation Centre in Windhoek came alive as the championship opened with a beautiful Opening Ceremony.

A very special acknowledgement was given to our principal sponsor, FNB. Their generous sponsorship and belief in our vision made an important contribution not only to this championship, but to the continued development and growth of karate in Namibia.

FNB's support enables us to create opportunities—from the four-year-old child stepping onto the competition floor for the first time to our national athletes representing Namibia internationally.

We are immensely grateful to FNB for investing in our karateka, our development programmes and our vision of making quality karate accessible to everyone. Their partnership demonstrates in a very real way the spirit behind “How can we help?”

Our sincere appreciation was also extended to the Namibia Sports Commission for its continued support of sport and karate in Namibia.

Another particularly proud moment was the recognition of our Namibian National Team—the NWUKF Eagles.

Then the action exploded onto the competition floors!

Our youngest karateka, the Karate Kids, opened proceedings with their exciting Nihon Kumite events, setting the tone for a spectacular day of karate.

What followed was an outstanding display of skill, determination and sportsmanship, involving karateka across generations—from our youngest beginners to experienced national and international competitors, including World Champions and members of the NWUKF Eagles.

By the end of an extraordinary day, medals had been won, champions crowned and countless memories created.

But the greatest triumph went beyond medals.

New friendships were formed, old friendships strengthened and new alliances created across dojo, organisational and national boundaries.

That is what WUKF karate represents: competition without losing friendship, excellence without losing accessibility, and growth without compromising quality.

QUALITY • ACCESSIBILITY • GROWTH

KARATE FOR ALL!
